Just had the following message from Ray Attwood, which may be of interest if any of you have beeen following the Saga of the Sealed Knot Copse in Windsor Great Park, and the story of the 'missing' trees that were paid for by SK members:
Following discussions with Barrie Upton, a fresh look has been given to the original idea of having a rededication event which fell within the Diamond Jubilee Year and on a date which had special significance to Her Majesty The Queen, namely Saturday 22nd December 2012.
Due to the tremendous demand on the Royal Family for their attendances during the Diamond Jubilee Year, we were unable to arrange a royal presence on the mentioned date. The date, only three days before Christmas, will prevent large numbers of Sealed Knot members from attending, and they will be disappointed in not being able to have been involved in such an unique occasion, so a change of plan has emerged.
There will not be a rededication of trees service on Saturday 22nd December 2012. Cancel any pencilled entry on your calendar and spread the word to all those that you may have informed.
The new provisional plan is to hold a day tripping event in 2013, most likely on a Saturday or a Sunday in April, in between the Basing House mini and the first May Bank holiday. This will provide the opportunity for much larger numbers of SK members to attend, and also gives an increased chance of possibly being able to arrange a royal presence.
Regards
Ray
For the Queens Silver Jubilee we purchased a number of Trees. They got forgottten, and subsequently moved to form an avenue. Ray tracked them down and the full story appeared in Orders. It was proposed that we commemorate the achievement by having a re dedication service during this the Diamand Jubilee year. This has now had to be put forward until next year, and negotiations are ongoing.
