now that was a busy day, so many people coming to see what we were doing, so many questions and so much interest, it was great.
Well done to Jackie for organizing this, it was well worth doing.
cant wait for the pictures to be posted.
Thanks to Paul and Jackie for a wonderful B-B-Q and social after, it was a lovely way to finish the day with friends sitting around, talking and relaxing.
well done to everyone who didn't get a chance to catch their breath and to those who put so much effort into the living history displays and Cameos.

Wow you guys are the most awesome. What a team of amazing people. From well before the event I had lots of support and encouragement that bloomed on the day, with everyone working hard and delievering a most speclacular and memorable presence at M.E.R.L. Rivers have definitely made a phenominal impressiom with the Vice Chancellor of the university. As Arnie would say (if he had a split personality) "We will be back".
It is at times like this that the "family" bond which is so much a part of our regiment shines through. From the fun we had with Kenny, dressing him up in my kitchen, through the setting up on site, the displays, cameo, dancing ,photo's and eventual chilling in the evening we all came together and had a damed good crack.
Big thankyou to Ken and Karen for keeping me calm and looking after me.
The loudest thankyou must go out to those not in our regiment that travelle so far to help us, Those being Ray and Sandra Costello, Esra, and Keith and Christa Berry- Davis. As Nigel said I must stop before I start crying tears of happiness. Everyone of you right down to Jenny Albert, Harry, Jess and the little one inside Kate were and continue to be incredible.

Echo all the above. Congratulations to Jackie for snapping up the opportunity and organising this. Uncannily realistic 'Queen Henrietta Maria' impression, too. Thank you to all who turned up to support Jackie and Paul, especially those from outside the Regiment. Very successful day- good weather, good turnout from visitors, good presence from us and thirteen people leaving their contact details. And nice to have a social afterwards.

It may be helpful if we could have a stall at freshers week at the university. Its what Tilliers do and they get about thirty new recruits a year.

We have looked into this before and even at charity rates it is hideously expensive

Would have thought that the signifcant number of potentially fit and active recruits far outweighs any reasonable cost. Other regiments find it is warranted,, but it could be the wrong university. I got it for free many years ago and raised a whole company almost overnight.

I will find out if we can get some kind of discount as Paul works at the university. I believe that the high cost may be applicable if there is no connection (in the form of a student rep.) but I may be wrong.

That would be great Jackie. Thinking back also, I was a student then. I know too that ECWS have some arrangement in universities. When they split off, Adrian Watts, then c.o. Newcastles, was part of a new group that became Sir Thomas Tildesley's Regt Of Foote. Duncan Head, of Oxford University Student Union, was also leader of a University society. It may be that we could come to some agreement with the Students Union.

The thing is john although it would be great to get that many people through the door, it has it's draw backs i was speaking to blabber from tilliers a while back about the way they recruite and yes it does offer a grand gene pool for one season not that many stay so it is on going and as he said you need someone who is more like a club 18/30s rep to look after them and there is the kit to concider as they have no money the regiment would have to have full kit for about 20 people per season and a mini bus to get them to events (God bless the youth of today )

I guess that goes for most new entries these days. When we first joined you had to agree to equip yourself entirely from your own reoursces. It was on the joining form and part of the ethos. Granted students are now on more restricted funds. Mini bus could also be Uni funded. There are also drawbacks like they are not as amenable to miltary discipline. That goes for Dartmouth Sandhurst and Cranwell as well as the SK. There is also the issue that big regiments genrate organisational problems, as Rivers itself did years ago. But its still a consideration we may wish to look at, and something that could require a bit of forethought even if we increase anyway.
