Siege of Bedford Castle 1244
Sunday 20th May 2012
Siege of Bedford Castle was the last great siege of the First Baron's War. In 1244, its custodian Fawkes de Breaute abducted one of the King's justiciars and held him prisoner. King Henry III was outraged and laid siege to the castle in June. In the siege which lasted eight weeks, every technique of medieval siege warfare was used yet it still took three assaults to break into the castle.

The Battle of Northampton took place on 10 July 1460. It marked the return of the Calais Lords after Ludford Bridge, and resulted in the capture of King Henry VI and the deaths of many Lancastrian lords. It also sparked a campaign that ended in the Battle of Towton.
