Dear all, This is a VERY brief message as I have been in a stupor of tiredness all day. As I expect most of you have. Can't say how proud I am to be part of this Regiment. What a fantastic response to an arduous seven-day challenge - some people took at least four days of their annual leave for this one... From Terry and Tasha's vision (my last speeding ticket was on or about Sept 28th 2008, when we went on a Battlefield walk with interested / influential people, and even then the hunt for sponsors had been long underway) to the lines of exhausted weather-beaten faces by Monday night and you all just kept going . You must all be very proud of yourselves. I remember playing a VERY small part in the 1989 muster in Donnington Valley, and the other major a couple of years later. Despite an almost complete changeover in members one thing remains the same - the fact that people in Earl Rivers got the job done efficiently, without complaint and (most importantly) with good humour. Have had loads of messages verbally over the weekend and on e-mail since and tomorrow I will post them ALL here. In the meantime here's one. Ann Thomas said that this was one of, if not the best majors organised in the 11 years that she has been SK's national events co-ordinator. Thank you all for making it happen Signing-off for now. A heartfelt thank you to you ALL. Sam. I said earlier this week that I would pass on the thanks of all those who spoke to me while exiting the camp site, or e-mailed me this week - their words are meant for you all, as it is your efforts over seven days that made this all work.
FROM ANN THOMAS (N.E.C. FOR SK) I would just like to thank you again so much for all your hard work on this. I can honestly say that it was one of the best organised events yet and everything worked like clockwork under some extremely challenging circumstances. The work that went into the design and layout and provision for the foreseen problems (road crossing) really paid off and it was a thoroughly great Muster. Thank you, and please thank the Rivers team. Ann FROM ARTHUR JACKSON, CHAIRMAN On a personal note you have worked so well for this event and you have my thanks for the work you have put in. The same to your regiment good team work. shame about the weather on monday as i am sure if it had been a ood day we would have done as well as Sunday.
FROM GARETH OWEN, SK PRO I very much enjoyed the battles I got to attend, shame about the weather on Monday, but it is traditional...
FROM SIMON DAVIES, TERTIO COMMANDER Sam, Congratulations to you and your team for organising a very successful muster. It was extremely well coordinated and although you no doubt faced many issues both leading up to it and during the muster, you overcame them all. It was good to see the cavalry in action and the battlefield was well laid out and the script was interesting, special thanks for the loos as well - one of the contentious issues normally, but you had no issues there at all - well done! Please pass on my thanks to your team, for a small regiment, you gave a major impact muster. I hope your recruiting went well and that you have successful follow up meetings with your potential recruits and convert them into soldiers of the Earl Rivers. Well done and many thanks Simon
FROM THORNTON BILLINGHURST TERTIO COMMANDER, HOPTONS on behalf of Hoptons a very big thank you for all the hard work he and Rivers put into getting this muster off the ground and running.Have a well earned rest and several buckets of beer or tea.
FROM FRANCINE PIMPERTON (Master of Horse) Hi Sam and Matthew Many thanks to you both for a brilliantly organised and enjoyable event! A huge thank you for the way you provided for the horses too. Janet was very impressed and it does help to build up good relationships with the contractors! For the cavalry it couldn't have been better arranged with the camping, horsefield etc and we did appreciate being close to the horses and all the other facilities rather than carrying kit miles... Hope you're both enjoying a well deserved rest and once again thank you for all your hard work in putting on such a super event. When's the next one?! Very best wishes Francinex
FROM RAY COSTELLO Hi Sam Congratulations to you and your team for a well run event. At one time on Sunday I was asked by Natasha to entertain a long slow moving queue at the hot food stall. I did of course, but I was struck by that level of "customer care" and I guess it was typical of the whole team. A brilliant attitude. I hope that the crowd braved the weather on Monday and you ended with a profit and some recruits. Perhaps the only tangible rewards for a weekend that was very well run, but I hope that when the exhaustion has passed, you will look back with pleasure and pride for the Regiment and its management team. All the best Ray
TOM ALDWINCKLE 1. thank you and all the guys for a great weekend. 2. Was extremely pleased with the LH camp – the layout worked a treat. Nice wide roadway for the public – used to full effect during the busy Sunday in particular. We had a good selection of LH stuff and people on show – so lots for the public to see and talk to. Very pleased at putting the `soldiers` at one end and the `village` at the other. – makes for a logical story for the public. LH site very heavily visited by the public throughout each day – Sunday being the busiest day.
FROM STEPHEN ELLNER, OC LEVENS COMPANY KING’S GUARD Hello Sam, A huge well done to you and the rest of Earl Rivers for a fantastic muster which not even the rain could dampen. The amount of effort that you had obviously put before and after the muster in paid off. I heard nothing but praise for weekend. Please let me know if you need any support for future events. Best regards Stephen
FROM A PARLIAMENTARIAN - ANDEW FERGAR - TOWER HAMLETS REGT Sam – Shame about the rain – but it was great to have a major ....so many more old faces to meet that way , we can book a lot more time in for Loseley ...I wander if there's a pub within marching distance FROM A WELSH PIKEMAN Hi All Thanks for an excellent weekend made even better with my glorious team Swansea City making it to the promised land, I'm on cloud 9 at moment. Mark FROM A SPECTATOR Thanks for the great show today. It was really well co-ordinated with plenty of action. The weather held out too. Michael Fell
FROM GRAHAM, A SPECTATOR, VIA ARTHUR JACKSON I just want to say what a fabulous day we had on Sunday. We were so impressed by the dedication and friendliness of your members and the authenticity and professionalism of the whole event - it was a super day out , one that the grandchildren will remember, and we learnt a lot of history too!
FROM A SPECTATOR (Who’d earlier compalined about lack of OAP concessions) Hi again, thanks for your reply to my e-mail and for passing on my comments re the pricing. Despite the cost I did still go to see the battle and it was fantastic, I didn’t expect the battle to last so long but it was like living history and both myself and my friend thought it was time well spent ! Looking around the encampment and talking to the folk who take part/ live the lifestyle was also really enjoyable. It was good value for money, despite no concession, so I’m not complaining, just hopeful that in the future there maybe a reduction for us more mature people J My congratulations and thanks to everyone involved and I sincerely hope you will return next year. Kind regards Yve hughes FROM THE BOYS AT GREEN LIGHT TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT I know our lads have been raving about the event and commenting on how good a weekend they had even, though they were down there to work……I think you have 2 new recruits for the next event! JOHN BEARDSWORTH - PHOTOGRAPHER Seemed a pretty well-organised event, Sam, well-done!

Here's a message from Mandy at the Newbury Showground...
"Hi Sam, Sorry I haven't got back to you. I wanted to e-mail (but been a bit busy on site) you just to let you know everything was fine and what a pleasure you were as an event to have on site. Please pass on our thanks to your team for clearing up so well; particularly the Horse Park so quickly on the Tuesday to allow the Dog Show campers on site by the afternoon. It was a big relief for me with having campers all wanting to get on site! ... Should you need Newbury to provide a reference for any other event you hold in the future, please do not hesitate to ask."
